Emily’s story

In the words of our Family Support Coordinator, Susie:

I had the enormous pleasure of meeting Emily, her younger sister and parents Sarah and Jahdyn today at RCH.

Emily is a delightful and energetic 2 year old, turning 3 in July, who loves babychinos, marshmallows and Bluey. In September 2024, after several frustrating visits to doctors unable to diagnose Emily’s symptoms, Sarah took her to RCH, where a scan showed a large brain tumour. To date, she has had 2 lengthy brain surgeries to remove the tumour, along with numerous anaesthetics, scans and invasive tests.

Unfortunately, a recent scan has shown the tumour has returned. Emily will undergo another neurosurgical operation in the next week and in late June the family will travel to the USA for proton radiation therapy.

Meeting families that we support is the most wonderful part of my role as Family Support Co-Ordinator. The generosity of families to give me their time, and to meet their beautiful children at such an enormously stressful and difficult time is truly inspiring.

Thank you Emily for the opportunity to meet you and your family. You are in our thoughts.
